Hailing from Weimar, Germany, PHOSPHENES, a visual arts collective and band, was founded by composer and producer, Harry Starbuck, and vocalist/lyricist, Julee Bee. Although the band was not formed until 2017, they met accidentally many years ago when Julee, a former freelance journalist, interviewed Harry about his previous band for a music magazine. They realized throughout the course of the interview that they had striking similarities in their tastes in music, and PHOSPHENES is the result of a friendship that was cultivated with care in the following years. Named after one of Julee"s internationally published and exhibited Polaroids, PHOSPHENES is a collection of the choicest fruits from Electro, Rock, Pop, and Wave influences and NY based-magazine "The Fader", who premiered their debut single Girls Trip, say about the band: "This German rock group could"ve soundtracked your favorite teen movie. Their indication is guitar-backed teenage nostalgia, with catchy riffs and soaring hooks."

For their first project, PHOSPHENES has decided to hit the ground running and start 2018 strong as they premier Find Us Where We"re Hiding (May 25). The album was mastered by Rob Murray whose client list includes artists like Sia, Miike Snow and Odesza. On Find Us Where We"re Hiding, the duo is supported by guitarist Florian Walther, who (among other commitments) is a member of the live band on "The Voice." Florian remarks, "I was a child when I discovered, that making music came as naturally to me as breathing. It"s a beautiful thing and a privilege for me to work together with such talented artists." Find Us Where We"re Hiding will be accompanied by two visually stirring and colorful music videos that underline the album concept. Concerning these music videos Julee states, "As PHOSPHENES is our newborn baby, I would say we are very proud of finishing the record and everything that accompanies it - especially the videos. We produced almost everything ourselves - the story, the production design, the filming, cutting and editing. The learning curve here was especially steep but this way everything looks and sounds exactly the way we intended it to."

Find Us Where We"re Hiding features an array of musical landscapes with sensational texture. Hearken as uplifting dream-pop pastures cascade from melancholic to mesmerizing. PHOSPHENES depicts unfathomably deep and lush textures of synth goodness and elevating guitar chords. Omnipresent ambient noises are suppressed by the percussion as whispering sound waves transport the listener to fleeting moments of yesteryear. An energizing, driving beat evokes memories of teenage days gone by, lived effortlessly, unrestrained and without fear or remorse.

When asked about their creative process, Harry explains, "We"ve worked in different bands before: Electro, Dance, Pop, and even some Wave. But now we"ve created that special team which is our home where we can be ourselves." Julee replies, "Music has been an integral part of our lives for a long time. As an artist, there is a natural urge to create and express yourself. In our case, music and photography are our main outlets. It helps us to escape from the daily grind and hopefully also enables our listeners to dream themselves away."

When asked about inspirations for their sound, Harry remarks, "My biggest inspirations are always epic and emotional things like Pink Floyd"s "The Wall" or Tears For Fears. I"m always lost in that cinematic, dreamy and epic sound." The band draws their inspiration from all kinds of different sources, always oscillating between a bittersweet feeling of nostalgia and sonic hopefulness. Harry adds, "I was, am, and will ever be a nostalgic, and a retro lover. I have warm feelings when I think back to the music I have heard in my teenage years." His fondest recollections of his youth are inspiration for the warm and enrapturing sounds present in tracks like "Boy in The Hood." Nostalgia, a light melancholia and dreaminess are the most prominent themes in the album.
