The twelve tracks capture the essence of the sea and combine jazz with sounds from the tropics and beyond. Thiébault recorded the album in various locations, including Cayenne, Suva and Fiji, incorporating local voices and natural sounds. ‘In Waves’ is both an ecological manifesto and a spiritual odyssey. The album reflects Thiébault"s commitment to exploring the boundaries of music and nature. The project was years in the making, with Thiébault travelling the world to gather sounds and inspiration. Marine Thibault, a flautist and producer, played a crucial role in creating the album"s dreamlike atmosphere. Her contribution to the orchestra is a generous dose of organic musical matter in a dreamlike atmosphere. The album features the sounds of singing Fijian children, Laotian instruments and the powerful Ka drums from Guadeloupe. It is a true return to the sea for Thiébault, who harmonised his musical intentions with his love of surfing. The album has been described as a colossal task, likened to the work of a film director bringing together a global team to realise his vision. Thiébault"s sound is unique, combining influences from around the world rather than following a single jazz tradition. The album is inspired by his love of the ocean, which he sees as a space of infinite inspiration and powerful energy. ‘In Waves’ is Thiébault"s most ambitious and intimate work to date.
