| | CATERINA VALENTE, CHET BAKER | Just You, Just Me (Buch / CD) | | | Hardcover Book (72 pages) plus CD (20 tracks) on Richard Weize"s ...And More Bears Label.Caterina Valente"s great musical love was jazz! As a child her idols were Billie Holiday, Django Reinhardt, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. But not even in her boldest dreams would she have imagined sharing the stage with jazz legends, or being on a television show with Ella and Louis. Young Caterina was over the moon when she received an invitation for an audition in 1953 from Kurt Edelhagen, who enjoyed great recognition with his perfect big band sound at that time.
The following years led to a number of joint recordings by Valente and Edelhagen, from which we have selected the most interesting highlights for "Just You, Just Me." On her way to international stardom Caterina Valente had made her name with early interpretations of classics such as I Get A Kick Out Of You, All Of Me, Stormy Weather, and Mackie Messer. In her German-sung version of Blue Pacific Blues Caterina surprises her listeners with a very atmospheric reading of the song, which remains close to the original from the movie "Miss Sadie Thompson" starring Rita Hayworth. Apart from Caterina Valente and Kurt Edelhagen, there is another legend featured on "Just You, Just Me" – the unforgotten trumpeter and singer Chet Baker, whose deeply touching interpretation of his signature song My Funny Valentine has lost nothing of its sensitivity until today.
In the course of their successful careers, Caterina"s and Chet"s paths crossed several times – thus for example in 1955 during a joint performance at the Villa Berg in Stuttgart. The live recording of I’ll Remember April from this performance is featured on "Just You, Just Me," as well as the studio version from March 1956, which was recorded for a joint single of the two young stars, coupled with Cole Porter"s farewell song Ev‘ry Time, We Say Goodbye. Caterina"s vocals, her guitar and Chet"s trumpet create an evocative atmosphere in which the two soloists are perfectly complementing one another. Despite only moderate success initially, the two recordings are enjoying cult status today.
"Just You, Just Me" contains beautiful timeless songs in sensitive interpretations from three acclaimed showbusiness legends from the early years of their careers. Caterina Valente, Chet Baker und Kurt Edelhagen remain unforgotten. | | | Manufacturer/importer information | |
