Born in Sarajevo and shaped by the upheavals of the Balkan War, Ivanovic discovered music at an early age—initially through his father, the classical guitarist Vojislav Ivanović. Trained as a drummer by George Polychronakos in Greece, he quickly developed his own distinctive style, combining rhythmic complexity with melodic sensitivity. His studies took him to the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and later to Utrecht, supplemented by a fellowship in New York. It was no later than the founding of the Blazin’ Quartet in 2008 that Ivanovic began to consistently realize his musical vision. The band, now based in Paris and featuring an international lineup, brings together musicians such as Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Federico Casagrande, and Mihail Ivanov to form an organic, genre-spanning ensemble. Numerous awards—including at the North Sea Jazz Festival—as well as worldwide tours underscore the significance of this project. With its latest album, “Cosmogonie” (2026), the Blazin’ Quartet reaches a new artistic dimension. The production combines complex structures with accessible soundscapes and showcases Ivanovic’s flair for dramaturgy and sound design.
